Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)

A revolutionary, scientifically proven method for painless dental cleaning and optimal gum health. Experience advanced prevention at The Dental Suite in Amsterdam.

Why Choose the GBT Method?

Traditional dental cleaning methods can sometimes feel uncomfortable or invasive. Guided Biofilm Therapy changes this entirely by utilizing the innovative AIRFLOW® technology.

100% Painless & Gentle

By using a warm mixture of air, water, and fine powder, harmful bacteria (biofilm) are removed safely and comfortably without scraping.

Highly Accurate Diagnostic Care

Ideal for Anxiety

Because the water spray is pleasantly warm and there are no harsh scraping sounds, the GBT method is exceptionally well-suited for patients with sensitive teeth or dental anxiety. It restores inflamed gums and prevents bone loss in the most comfortable way possible.

Clinical Health Advisory
Recent scientific guidelines confirm that severe gum disease (periodontitis) significantly impacts your overall health. Active bacteria in the mouth substantially increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and can disrupt blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. The GBT method is globally recognized as the most effective preventive measure to halt these health risks immediately.

Guided Biofilm Therapy

A gentle revolution in oral care

The GBT method targets the root cause of gum disease directly at the source. By first applying a special disclosing solution, we make the bacteria (the biofilm) in your mouth instantly visible. This allows our specialists to work with extreme accuracy and efficiency.

Using the warm water spray of the AIRFLOW® and highly precise PIEZON® technology, we clean teeth, molars, implants, and deep pockets down to the exact millimeter. The result is a perfectly clean mouth, protection of your jawbone, and long-lasting fresh breath.

The Step-by-Step Plan

How Does the GBT Method Work?

Restoring and protecting your gums follows a comfortable, scientifically supported step protocol.

  • 01

    Visualization & Analysis

We temporarily stain the bacteria (biofilm) in your mouth with a mild liquid. This makes all hidden plaque immediately visible to both you and the practitioner, ensuring we do not miss a single millimeter.

  • 02

    Gentle AIRFLOW® Cleaning

With a pleasantly warm water spray and fine Plus powder, we gently wash away all biofilm and early-stage tartar from the teeth and deep pockets. This feels like a mild wellness cleaning.

  • 03

    Evaluation & Protection

We visually check the final outcome and protect your teeth with preventive fluoridation. Together, we establish a maintenance schedule to keep your gums and smile healthy over the long term.

Frequently Asked Questions

Care & Clarity

What are the costs for a treatment with the GBT method? +
The costs for Guided Biofilm Therapy are calculated based on the nationally established NZa (Dutch Healthcare Authority) rates for preventive oral care. This base rate consists of the GBT analysis with biofilm disclosure (code M03) and the gentle, deep cleaning with the AIRFLOW® water spray (code M01 or M02 at €17.01 to €24.93 per 5 minutes). Our clinic in Amsterdam is centrally located and easily accessible from South, Center, and West. You will receive a personalized, transparent cost overview during your first consultation.
Is the GBT method painful? +
No, Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is widely known to be significantly more comfortable and gentler than traditional methods using harsh scaling instruments. At The Dental Suite, we ensure a serene experience. If desired, we can perform the treatment under a mild local anesthetic, allowing you to remain completely relaxed in the chair.
Is the GBT method covered by insurance? +
Yes. Because the GBT method falls under the regular NZa codes (M and T codes), standard dental insurance coverages apply. For adults (18 years and older), costs are covered exclusively through supplementary dental insurance, up to the maximum annual allowance of your policy. GBT is not covered for adults under the basic statutory health insurance. For youth under 18, different rules apply: their treatment is fully covered by the basic health insurance.
